Latest Sony Phones Bring Massive change to its Smartphone UI

Sony has been in the smartphone segment since years now and is known to follow its own rules when it comes to design and upgrades. The Japanese tech firm’s smartphones are yet to adapt 18:9 displays, bezel-less design and more. While it is anyone’s guess as to when Sony plans to upgrade its smartphone in terms of design, it definitely seems to be working on revamping the software side of things. According to a Sony community moderator, the firm is working on a brand-new Android launcher or what can be called as the Xperia Home replacement.

Although the details are not concrete as of yet, the fact that Sony has stopped working on new feature for the current Home Application, gives us a hint that something new is in the pipeline. “The reason for discontinuing new feature development is the current Xperia Home Application is that we are developing a new Home Application,” said the moderator named Erika Prymus.

It is rumoured that since bringing a new smartphone launcher is a huge step for Sony, what could be a better opportunity to roll it out along with Android P OS update. It can be possible that the new UI may make better use of gesture support and maybe the display cutout that comes in Android P. There is no confirmation by the company on the launch timeline.

Earlier this month, Sony mentioned that it won’t be rolling out any new features for its Xperia Weather app. It is said that only one more beta version of the upgrade is under works, after which the focus will be app’s maintenance.

“The application will continue in its current form in a maintenance phase for as long as deemed necessary,” said Peter Arvidsson. “There is currently one more beta version planned to be released, which dramatically change how things operate under-the-hood. This will hopefully yield a better experience for all users. Apart from that, beta releases will be focused on bug fixes only going forward.
