Here is how Apple will make future iPhones, iPads stronger for you

The recent shift to an all-glass design in Apple iPhones has raised concerns about the durability of future iPhones among consumers. Also, the high-replacement cost of displays have always worried Apple fans. A news report by Patently Apple has revealed that the Cupertino-based tech giant could be considering to provide a stronger glass with “enhanced stiffness” for future iPhones and iPads. Apple had reportedly filed a patent application in April for a “tubular glass constructed iPhone”.

According to the patent filing, future iPhones could come with a “glass wraparound display”. Also, another patent application reveals a strengthened glass cover to its portable devices like “media players, mobile phones and others.” In other words, Apple might look at launching a separate cover glass for devices for added protection. However, it is not clear, whether Apple intends to sell this glass cover separately or will it include it with all portable devices out-of-the-box.

Apple is also reportedly planning to add strength to the glass by either opting for “fiberglass ribbing” or by offering a sapphire coating. If this is the case, then all future iPhones and iPads could come with a strengthened glass. Apple is already using sapphire on the camera lenses of iPhones and the Apple Watch. It would be interesting to see how Apple uses sapphire glass coating on bigger devices as a covering glass for protection without compromising on the display quality.

It is good to hear that Apple is at least considering to strengthen its all-glass iPhones. But there is no evidence as to when can we finally expect the “glass cover” on iPhones. In another news, as far as iPhones are concerned, Apple is reportedly planning to bring the display notch in its upcoming affordable iPhone SE 2.
