WhatsApp Launches its UPI feature for everyone Review

The company has been prompting some users to send an invite to friends on iOS and Android to use the latest feature over the past few days. Users require to link their bank accounts and verified with standard One Time Password (OTP). WhatsApp is allowing a transfer of up to Rs 5,000 in a single transaction.

WhatsApp has reportedly launched its UPI feature for the masses. The company has been prompting some users to send an invite to friends on iOS and Android to use the latest feature over the past few days.

According to a report by Entrackr, users require to link their bank accounts and verified with standard One Time Password (OTP). The report further highlights that unlike other UPI-enabled apps like BHIM, Paytm or Tez, WhatsApp is allowing a transfer of up to Rs 5,000 in a single transaction. Besides invite-based access, the feature can also be accessed by updating the application to the latest version.

To recall, the company rolled out the UPI-based payments feature to select beta users in February this year. With WhatsApp Payments, users can send and receive money from within WhatsApp with UPI (Unified Payments Interface). To either receive or send money, you have to first link your bank account which is already linked to UPI.

It is important to note here that both sender and receiver need to have UPI setup in their WhatsApp accounts for the payments to work. Here is the step-by-step guide to set up WhatsApp UPI feature and send money using the said feature.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has extended Android Gingerbread support until February 1, 2020. It means the app will stop working on devices that run Android Gingerbread and older platforms on February 1, 2020. So if you are using the mobile phone running on this platform, you will not be able to use WhatsApp after the year 2020.
