Infinix, an online-centric brand from Transsion Holdings, has today introduced a new budget-centric smartphone, Hot 6 Pro in India for Rs 7,999. To begin with, let's say that it has an interesting set of features.
For this price, you are getting a sleek design, a powerful 4000mAh battery along with latest display trend. However, the question here is: will this smartphone be able to create a new success story for Infinix in India? We did spend some time with the device and here is our first impression.
Design and Display
Starting with design, the phone comes with a pretty sleek design language. You get a matte finish at the back, which surely gives it a premium look. The phone is just 8.6mm thick and weighs just 158 grams, despite having a large battery. The Hot 6 Pro comfortably fits in your hand, which again a plus point here. Thankfully, the phone gives a distinctive look as compared to the pretty standard design found in other smartphones which are available in the sub Rs 8000 price bracket.
Quickly briefing you about some design aesthetics, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro comes with an 18:9 display at the front. Although the side bezels are minimal, top and bottom bezels are somewhat big. The front comes with a selfie camera along with an earpiece and LED flash on the top, while at the base, there are on-screen navigation controls.
The right houses volume controls and power on/off button, while the left comes loaded with dual-SIM slot and a dedicated micro SD card slot. The top is bare, while the base comes with a micro USB port flanked between speaker grille and headphone jack. The back panel sports a dual-camera setup at the top-left corner, while the fingerprint sensor is located at the centre. That said, the phone does give a distinct look and it is easy to hold as well.
Coming to the display, Infinix Hot 6 Pro sports a 5.99-inch HD+ FullView display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels along with NEG glass protection. In our initial testing, we found out the display was quite bright as compared to other devices available at this price range. This is because of 500nits brightness, which makes it easier to read the screen when you are outdoors. 1000:1 contrast ratio and a pixel density of 269ppi ensures that the texts look sharp and colour reproduction is quite standard, in our opinion. However, we will discuss in details in the upcoming review of this smartphone.
Hardware and Software
On the hardware front, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor along with Adreno 308 GPU. The phone is backed by a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via micro SD card. Although the processor used here is quite old, but the company says that using Snapdragon 425 is tried and tested chipset. The inclusion of the processor has helped the brand to offer other interesting feature without increasing the price of the phone. That said, it should be interesting to see whether the device will be able to perform well in our testing.
On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, which is based on the company’s custom UI XOS 3.2 on top of it. Our initial impression of the user interface is a quite mixed bag. On one hand, the user interface comes loaded with interesting features like Freezer app that prevents app to run in the background, thus, saving computing and battery consumption. Then there is multi-window support, customisable themes and more. However, on another hand, the UI comes loaded with a noticeable amount of bloatware, which kind of spoils the mood. We will talk about this later in the review.
Camera
The camera is yet another major highlight of this smartphone. You get dual rear cameras which comes with a combination of 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors with dual LED flash, aperture f/2.0 and PDAF. The rear camera offers modes like Portrait Mode, Professional Mode, Time Lapse, Night Mode, Panorama, HDR.
For the front, it offers 5-megapixel selfie camera with Softlight Flash for selfies and video calling. In our initial testing, we found out that the camera performance is quite decent when the lighting condition is ideal and portrait mode works well in the brief testing period. Stay tuned with us for more details on the camera department.
Battery and Connectivity
Verdict
Infinix Hot 6 Pro comes loaded with some interesting features and it sure looks like an interesting proposition considering its price tag. As for the competition is concerned, the phone will compete against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 5, InFocus Vision 3 and more.
