Huawei is seeding last year’s Mate 10 device with a new update that enhances the four-camera setup on the phone to feature a new Night mode. The Night mode uses algorithms and various shutter mechanisms to capture images in dimly lit surroundings. The feature first debuted with the launch of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro which employed dual and triple cameras respectively and is now being ported to the much older Mate 10 Series.

The new night mode allows users of the Mate 10 series phones to shoot night scenes at different shutter speeds and thus combine all of them into a single picture. The resulting picture will thus consist of lower noise and a larger exposure, bringing low light photography to a whole new level. Since this is a software-based image optimisation, you can’t expect the same to work flawlessly when capturing moving subjects like people or cars. The software also brings with it several bug fixes and performance optimisations.

To recall, Huawei has been pushing content updates to the older Mate 10 series, the last of them adding the ability to shoot 960 fps slow-mo recording to the dual camera sensors of the Mate device.
