Manikpur Hotel Owner Stabbed and assaulted by unidentified man at Vasai Railway bridge


A hotelier was allegedly assaulted by an unidentified man on the Vasai railway bridge, Mumbai on Tuesday. The victim Sameer Merchant (45), who runs a hotel at Manickpur, Vasai (West) was attacked by an unknown man at 4 pm on Tuesday. The closed circuit television (CCTV) on the bridge captured the incident. It shows Merchant along with other commuters walking over the bridge. An unidentified man coming from the opposite direction attacks Sameer Merchant with an ice chisel in hand.

Merchant, who is caught unawares, tries to fight off the attacker, who assaults him on the left hand and abdomen. The two get into a fight during which a few female commuters are seen running away. A few male commuters at the spot also stay away when the attack takes place. The suspect, seen wearing blue jeans and purple shirt, runs towards the west side. Merchant is also seen leaving towards the west side with the ice chisel pierced into his left hand.


The Vasai GRP has registered a case of assault against the suspect. Merchant, who is undergoing treatment at the Krishna hospital in Vasai told the police that he did not know the assaulter.
